This month, the spotlight is on Murray, Senior Director Customer Experience.
Q: What’s your name?
A: Murray L.
Q: What three words would you say describe you best?
A: Determined, reliable and creative
Q: When did you join the UPLevel Work Family?
A: May 1, 2019
Q: What is your role with UPLevel?
A: Senior Director, Customer Experience
Q: Is this a role you would have envisioned yourself in 10 years ago?
A: Yes, I’m on the path I expected or wanted to be on professionally.
Q: We would love to hear about your professional journey that led to this role. Care to share?
A: Although I studied Environmental Studies at University, I was working for the Toronto Star as a summer job in Simcoe County/Muskoka which led to an offer of full time employment upon graduation. A few years later I was offered a job with a collection agency. This agency was bought by Equifax. I then crossed the floor and worked with TransUnion for the next 10 years. In 2014, after a re-org and going public, I started my own business development company. I was fortunate enough to work in sales, marketing, analytics, management and product development. All of these roles, relationships and experiences have instilled several qualities and ethics in how I live.
Q: Who was your role model growing up?
A: My grandfather
Q: What skill would you love to learn, at work or in general?
A: To create and build better presentations.
Q: What would you say is the most fulfilling part of your role at UPLevel?
A: To be able to watch, learn and assist in the growth and development of UPLevel
Q: What is one experience you’ve had in the past week that truly exemplified UPLevel’s Culture of Caring?
A: The open and transparent culture at UPLevel. I have met only a portion of the folks at UPLevel and I have witnessed enthusiasm, professionalism, vulnerability and lots of smiles.
Q: If you had to choose one “focus word” to represent your mindset and goals for the next year, what would it be?
Q: What is your hidden talent?
A: I am an aspiring guitar player. I bought an acoustic guitar a long time ago and am still waiting for an offer to play in a bluegrass band.
Q: Which time period would you visit in history?
A: WW1: 1914 – 1918. I am amazed with World War 1. A war fought using archaic methods of warfare resulting in millions of unnecessary deaths. Poor communication, poor leadership and a lot of bad decisions. Probably the last war where soldiers fought with blind obedience.
